Leftfield and Boy Harsher joins Stereo Nova at Release Athens 2023 | 15/7/2023

Headlining act, Stereo Nova, is joined by Leftfield and Boy Harsher on July 15th, 2023, Realease Athens 2023!

Release Athens 2023 welcomes Leftfield and Boy Harsher, on Saturday, July 15, at Nerou Square. The great figure of British electronic music and the American representatives of dark electronica will flank the headliners, Stereo Nova, in an unrepeatable night of intensity and dancing.

Leftfield

Leftfield formed in 1989 and in a short period of time, with the release of "Not Forgotten", they created the standard that would move British house away from the American style that had prevailed in Great Britain until that time.

Their debut album, “Leftism” (1995), remains a dance music benchmark, a wonderful blend of musical styles and flawless beats, nominated for a Mercury Prize and later voted in the top ten albums of all time by readers of Q magazine From this, numerous successful singles emerged, such as "Open Up", their now legendary collaboration with John Lydon, "Original", featuring Curve's Toni Halliday, and of course "Release the Pressure", an unsurpassed dance anthem that never lost its place in the sets of the world's greatest DJs.

During the 90s, Leftfield were an unstoppable force, starting the explosion of the British dance scene - along with bands such as Orbital, Underworld and the Chemical Brothers - and catapulting electronic music from underground clubs to the mainstream and the charts. In fact, they closed this particular decade with "Rhythm and Stealth", another excellent album that featured singles such as "Africa Shox" and the imposing "Swords".

In 2022, they returned with "This Is What We Do", which received excellent reviews, and a series of live shows, mainly in Britain. All the while, they are considered one of the defining live acts of the scene with the now infamous “Liveism” tour, which followed the release of “Leftism”, creating a whole new way of presenting dance music, turning their concerts into a big event, in a unique party. On Saturday 15 July, this party will be set up in Water Square, in a great night for fans of electronic music - and not only.

Boy Harsher

The Boy Harsher duo consists of singer/songwriter Jae Matthews and producer Augustus Muller. The two were studying film at the University of Savannah and that's where their initial interest in music began. Matthews wrote screenplays and Muller composed the soundtrack for these non-existent films. From 2014 to the present, they have been what some might call the gold standard of modern darkwave and industrial.

The EPs, "Lesser Man" and "Country Girl", as well as the debut, "Yr Body Is Nothing", led the duo to extensive tours and sold out concerts in the US and Europe, where they became known for their risky and shocking live performances. the appearances. The release of "Careful", in 2019, increased their reputation after it was deified by the biggest music media on the planet (Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, NPR Music).

In 2022 they returned with a new album, the soundtrack of their own short film, entitled "The Runner". It is a "reconciliation" with the uncertain times in which it was created, in sound and image, but also a step forward for the band's dark pop. Synth chords over "angry" bass lines, with Jae's erotic and ethereal voice commanding to dance.
