The Journal Playlist - 10/24

New sounds new melodies, new ideas!

The Journal blog playlist is here and there are so many new things that you can find in here! There are some great songs and sounds I've been listening for a while now and I would love to share with you in this playlist!

The Real Mack The Knife - Neon Rain

An emo new wave synthpop song inspired by the Cranberries and the "like tears in the rain" speech at the end of the cult classic movie Blade Runner.

Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy - Little Fairies

Fresh from the successful vinyl release of their acclaimed debut album, World On Fire, and an intense summer of touring and festival appearances, Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy return with Little Fears, the first taste of the band’s forthcoming second album. The haunted stepchild of The Zombies and Mike Oldfield, Little Fears comes accompanied by a stunning homage to 1970s horror movies produced and directed by the independent filmmakers at Gold Tops Studios in South Wales. Little Fears by Joe Kelly & The Royal Pharmacy is out now and available to stream everywhere via Dirty Carrot Records

 Johnny Hunter - Frustration

Sydney post-punk, Johnny Hunter released "Frustration". Produced by Canadian producer Jesse F. Keeler (of Death From Above and MSTRKRFT), ‘Frustration’ is a synth-laden, pop-infused anthem with the authentic energy of 80s post-punk. Drawing comparisons to the brooding intensity of Joy Division and Bauhaus, the track also channels the glam and bravado of icons like Morrissey and Bowie. Born out of the band's utter distaste with a world driven by consumerism rather than genuine beliefs, the song juxtaposes its deep political and philosophical commentary against a buoyant, blistering goth rock soundscape that compels listeners to move. Fronted by Nick Hutt's bullish, baritone howls, Johnny Hunter weave together a tapestry of musical references and poetic, politically charged lyrics, encapsulating a sound best described as "Nick Cave on overdrive."

 Deep Dive Species - Unconditional

The third single from new album "Habitat" by Deep Dive Species. “Unconditional” is tender and touching suite about love. Not a love song, but a musical postcard. At some point it can make you cry or send the chills down your spine, for it has that elusive glimpse of sadness, like the one found in tears of joy. The video is an old film from a parallel universe. It is like a string of surrealistic paintings coming to life, dancing out their stories about love.

 Valariejx - PRESSURE (Valarijex Version)

"Pressure" is mastered by four-time Grammy & RIAA award-winning producer Will Borza. Will also worked on ‘Gary Clark Jr - This Land which won three Grammys Including Best Rock Performance, Deftones, The Smashing Pumpkins, Foster The People & 30 Seconds to Mars’. ‘Pressure’ was initially mixed by Valarijex himself and then master mixed by Anthony Norris, renowned six-time ARIA, three AFIs, and Platinum award winner. (Jesse Valach - Blues Mountain & the Black Sorrows.) And Nicholas Di Lorenzo (Universal, Sony & Warner) under the tutelage of Martin Pullan (Deep Purple, Jimmy Barnes, Julia Henning & Andrew Hagger.). “The aim of ‘Pressure’ is to challenge the sonic soundscape and create a new paradigm of what dance music can be. That's what it's about.” Engineer experts will hear the dynamics, the love for analog gear, and the sonic quality within this release. The recording techniques utilized are a nod towards rock and classic pop. How classic songs were engineered in the past. Conversely, crying, anxiety and sleepless nights can also be heard. The track explores letting go of the old ways, that immigrant mentality of suffering and guilt. To come back full circle and express only the purest emotions.
