The Dream Eaters - Oh Tanya!
"Oh Tanya!" by The Dream Eaters is a dreamy synthpop song that evokes a sense of ethereal longing and wistful nostalgia.
With its lush, atmospheric synths and soft, airy vocals, the track feels like it’s floating through a serene, otherworldly soundscape. The dream pop influences shine through in the gentle melodies and soothing layers of sound, creating a calming yet emotionally evocative mood.
The production is clean and warm, with each element of the song perfectly balanced, allowing the vocals to shine without overwhelming the delicate instrumentals. "Oh Tanya!" carries a bittersweet emotional tone, as the lyrics express longing and introspection, fitting seamlessly into the dreamlike sonic world. The Dream Eaters craft a track that is both hypnotic and emotionally resonant, offering a serene escape into a dreamy, melodic landscape.
The Dream Eaters have evolved from a dream pop band into a full-on video art project with an extensive catalogue of weird and darkly humorous music videos of their catchy pop songs. The duo started working together after vocalist Elizabeth LeBaron, originally from Calgary, started working at the same bar as singer/songwriter Jake Zavracky, originally from Boston, in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn.
“‘Oh Tanya!’ is a very good example of our songwriting style,” says Zavracky about their new single. “It's a melodramatic parody of pop music that, at the same time, says something that is meaningful to us. Tanya is not a person, the name is a proxy for anything that can be lost.” LeBaron adds, “There’s a lot of vibrato and longing in it, like a wet 80s New Wave love song."
The Dream Eaters - Elizabeth LeBaron of Calgary and Jake Zavracky of Boston - initially came into this world as “Jake and Elizabeth” in 2015. They met while working at a bar in the Gowanus neighborhood of Brooklyn NY, and started recording together, producing several EPs in the dreampop/shoegaze vein: “The Rush of Love”, “It Came From Gowanus”, “Gimme the Stars”, “Too Much Sugar” and finally, after changing the name to The Dream Eaters, “Five Little Pills”.
In early 2017 they released their first full-length, “We Are A Curse", making an impact on the college radio charts. The duo toured extensively throughout the next three years, releasing their critically acclaimed second LP “Pagan Love” in late 2018..
In the run-up to the Covid pandemic the band began developing an idea for a show that featured a bizarre collection of music videos of their own making. In September 2020 they dropped the first episode of "The Dream Eating Freakshow". Several more episodes followed throughout 2020 and 2021. In 2022, the band started consistenly producing videos of short and darkly comic songs, posting them to social media and accruing millions of views.
Throughout the first half of 2023 the band released several singles - "Atomic Queen", "Rot in Hell", "F**k My Skull" and "Night Terrors". In the second half of 2023 they will begin releasing an updated version of their show called "We Are The Dream Eaters". A short film in the same vein will be released in early 2024.
