"Blood Sport" is the same titles track from Baker's EP, "Blood Sport", released on July 12th via E-Tron Records from Hull, Quebec. The single "Blood Sport" is a track that blends the electrified new-wave and synthwave with elements of post-punk and electro. With its sound "Blood Sport" delivers a sound that's both retro, romantic and vibrantly modern. Its sonic journey is filled with shimmering synths and pulsating beats, creating an atmosphere that seems dark and feels energetic.
"Blood Sport" opens with a catchy synth hook that sets its nostalgic and melancholic tone, glancing into the new wave and synth influences and creating the atmosphere from the beginning. Baker's vocals are deep but smooth with a gloomy sense that complements the single's driving rhythm. The lyrics, tinged with conflict and determination, add a layer of depth to the danceable beats, creating a song that balances between its energetic tempo and the romanticism of its arrangement.
Production-wise, "Blood Sport" is a really well structured and layered song with the electronic elements and the haunting lines giving a textured feel. The synths while being minimal they build the atmosphere and the emotions that Baker wants to express, showing the ability of blending a variety of elements. "Blood Sport" easily the melodic sensibilities of new-wave with the synthetic warmth of synthwave and the energetic drive of electro.
Baker is a project from Canadian Singer/Songwriter André Bluteau. The moniker ‘Baker’ is the family surname, lost when his grandfather was placed in an orphanage shortly after birth. Baker’s music is genuinely personal in it’s writing and focused around ‘crafty’ production.
