Roselove - marionette
"marionette" by Roselove is a captivating fusion of slacker rock, alternative rock, and shoegaze, creating a sound that feels both laid-back and deeply introspective.
"marionette" opens with lazy, swirling guitar riffs that embody the essence of sleaze rock, effortlessly setting a mellow tone. This relaxed vibe is contrasted with the lush, reverb-drenched layers of shoegaze guitars that flows over the listener, creating a dreamy, almost hypnotic atmosphere. Roselove's vocals, delivered with a cold coolness, they weave through the mix with a sense of detachment that perfectly complements the song’s hazy aesthetic.
Roselove comments on "marionette": "Musically, Marionette was inspired by the indie sleaze pop revival scene in London and the shoegaze scene in Philadelphia. I wrote this song about a couple of topics. Acutely, it is about feeling overlooked as a transgender woman in the media industry. More broadly, it is about the growing epidemic of loneliness in the United States and how this disproportionately affects working class individuals, because we are often systemically corralled into desolate locations and face social discrimination in denser, livelier areas, which tend to be more posh."
"marionette" is well textured, with each element crafted to evoke a sense of melancholic nostalgia. The bassline grooves steadily beneath the layers of sound, grounding the track while allowing the guitars to soar and shimmer. Roselove’s ability to blend the slack, carefree attitude of alternative rock with the lush, immersive soundscapes of shoegaze makes "Marionette" a beautiful track that resonates with emotion, atmosphere and depression.
Roselove adds on "maronette: "I wanted to write a song about these issues from my perspective as a woman, because I feel that male loneliness is disproportionately covered in media due to male privilege in general, as well as radicalized, misogynistic, bad actors such as incels forcing us to see these issues from a male perspective. I believe that loneliness is something we all experience and I wanted to create something that imbue my listeners with a feeling of solidarity and community, while still holding space for the grief that we feel as a result of loneliness. Also, the song is sexy!"
