Mythology Meets the Dancefloor in "Das Lindenblatt" by The Mechanical Sheep

With their second single, "Das Lindenblatt" the Bonn-based project The Mechanical Sheep proves that the heavy rhythms of EBM can be the perfect way for ancient storytelling.

Following their debut "2+2=5", the new single establishes the duo’s identity as a connection of cold, industrial soundscapes and rich mythology.

While many Industrial acts look toward a dystopian future, "Das Lindenblatt" looks to the mythical past. The song focuses on Siegfried the Dragon Slayer from the Nibelungenlied. The title refers to the leaf that fell on Siegfried’s back while he bathed in dragon blood, creating his only point of vulnerability.

It’s a cool, tragic concept that perfectly matches the dark, moody energy of Industrial music. Plus, the band wrote this with a view of the actual Drachenfels (Dragon's Rock) near Bonn, giving the whole thing a super authentic, local feel. Expect heavy, driving beats and dark electro textures with soul. "Das Lindenblatt", released on February 19th, is a powerful, atmospheric sound experience, perfectly balancing the history, the lyrics, and the hard electronics. It could be an example of how to make local history feel fresh, loud, and totally modern!

About The Mechanical Sheep:

In 2024, a new, dark sonic construct entered the electronic music scene: The Mechanical Sheep. Behind this project is Mathew Bonehead, already known in the scene as a songwriter and co-founder of the project CIRES (alongside Eric Schmaler). But while CIRES pursues its own path, Mathew Bonehead dedicates himself to another deeply rooted passion with "The Mechanical Sheep": the raw energy of EBM, industrial, and dark electro.

The musical foundation of the project is as unusual as it is fascinating. It's a sonic journey through time, unearthing demo recordings from the archives that span three decades. These "forgotten gems" are dusted off, deconstructed, and completely reinterpreted using modern production techniques. The result is a sound that breathes the essence of the last 30 years and catapults them into the present.

What truly sets The Mechanical Sheep apart from classic genre representatives, however, is its lyrical concept. Instead of limiting itself to genre-typical slogans, the project weaves hard electronic beats with the cultural heritage of world literature. Novels, poetic poems, ancient legends, and fairy tales serve as its textual foundation. The dark visions of George Orwell, the macabre horror of Edgar Allan Poe, and the timeless poetry of Goethe collide with uncompromising sequencer lines.

Musically, the style can be described as a tightrope walk: hard and driving in its rhythms, yet always melodic and catchy. The Mechanical Sheep takes no prisoners—it's a project for listeners who seek both the sophistication and the physical force of electronic music.
