hi•ku - S.O.U.L.
hi•ku's "S.O.U.L." emerges as a captivating blend of synthpop, darkwave, and synthwave!
"S.O.U.L." marks a compelling follow-up to their debut, "Hiding Place." This trio, formed in Catania in 2022, crafts a sound deeply steeped in a melancholic and romantic mood, evocative of a futuristic, neon-drenched Neo-Tokyo.
Musically, "S.O.U.L." skillfully fuses 80s-inspired synthwave with ethereal dream pop elements, creating an atmosphere that's both nostalgic and distinctly modern. The track’s dark soul seems to dialogue with the likes of She Wants Revenge, while its synth-wave pulse recalls Depeche Mode. You might even catch subtle echoes of Massive Attack and contemporary electro-pop acts such as The Weeknd or Daft Punk.
The accompanying video, directed by Mirko Puliatti and filmed at Spazio Clatù, visually complements the song's aesthetic. "S.O.U.L." is carefully constructed narrative, embodying the poetic essence of its namesake. It’s the suggestion of a clear moon, the fading autumn, and the image of a faded memory, all wrapped in a beautifully dark, electronic embrace.
