Sunset Station - Video Star
"Video Star" by Sunset Station is a brooding, atmospheric dive into modern post-punk with a cold wave edge.
"Video Star" stnds upon a hypnotic, driving bassline, creating a dark and cinematic tone. Shimmering, reverb-heavy guitars weave in and out, evoking the ghostly beauty of early '80s goth rock. The vocals are distant yet urgent, drenched in melancholy and subtle desperation.
There’s a definite Faith-era Cure influence, but it never feels derivative, just reverent. The production is good, layering synth textures and echoing drum patterns for a full, immersive sound. A sense of isolation and longing is coming out of the "Video Star", making it a perfect night listen. The sounds and emotions shift gracefully, building tension and release in a powerful way.
Sunset Station manages to capture the past while pushing their own sound forward. "Video Star" is haunting and deeply atmospheric.
