Alisa Murphy: The Force Behind the "Gothic Rave"

Alisa Murphy, also known as Alexandra Fragkou, is a DJ, producer, and the driving force behind the brands Hardvision and Electric Cave, two pillars of the Greek underground scene.

Her journey began in the local underground, where she blended EBM and Acid techno, merging raw elements and diverse aesthetics to forge a unique identity she affectionately calls “Gothic Rave.”

Gradually, Alisa bridged different musical worlds, a process that culminated in her production “Destroyed Reality,” to be released on April 8th via Minus Records, where various underground subcultures meet in a unified sonic universe. The founding of Electric Cave and its evolution into Hardvision provided a new benchmark for her sound, allowing her to fully express her artistic persona. Recognition followed both in Greece and internationally, with performances in Bulgaria and Tbilisi, upcoming shows in London, with Hardvision's first official international showcase, specifically at Saga Sonica X Hardvision at M.O.T, and established acclaim in Berlin through label collaborations. She has shared the decks with heavyweights like Paolo Ferrara, SNTS, Lee Ann Roberts, and Jowi Jane, as well as numerous local artists through her collaborations with various collectives.

The upcoming Hardvision X Electric Cave showcase will be the first in Greece to host a Hybrid line-up, uniting different underground scenes in a single, high-energy event. This phenomenon of unification is hard to describe for those who haven’t experienced it firsthand, yet it is the heart of her journey, the essence of the truth and soul she pours into every move.

On the occasion of the upcoming event we had the chacnce to talk with Alisa Murphy about her vision and project!

When did you realize you could unite different music scenes and create your own distinct signature?

EBM and hard techno/acid music are naturally linked because both rely on repetition, mechanical energy, and groove. EBM hits the body directly with industrial sounds and hard, repetitive beats, while hard techno and acid take that same pulse and evolve it into a faster, psychedelic, trance-like experience. In essence, they share the same "pulse," just with a different aesthetic.

How do you manage to keep your identity clear while playing across different genres and venues?

It’s not always easy, but I rely on the fact that the audience recognizes the venues and the promotions. Fortunately, as my friends say, no matter what I play, it will "hit," so the result is always effective.

What was your vision when creating Electric Cave, and why did you decide to transform it into Hardvision?

The EBM scene is small and skews older, with limited productions that often feel repetitive. With the rebranding to Hardvision, we wanted to introduce fresher, younger sounds while maintaining the essence and attitude of the underground scene.

The upcoming Hardvision X Electric Cave showcase will be the first in Greece with a Hybrid line-up. What do you expect this to offer the scene and the audience?

I’m very curious to see the crowd's reaction. Five other artists will join me to explore this concept. I’m optimistic because both audiences are quite knowledgeable, so I believe the result will be both exciting and highly anticipated.
