The crew comprised of Georgia Symeonidou and Lefteris Chatzisavvas, is ready to take off, inviting all passengers on board for their debut album live presentation on Thursday, November 20th, at Rover Bar, Thessaloniki.

Recently I came across this new dark wave duo originating from Thessaloniki, a city I truelly love and had some really good nights there, walking around the urban landscape, guided towards the finest local, underground, alternative bars. My experience with Velvet Cave began immediately ipon discovering their debut album, available on their Bandcamp page.

"Sagitarius B2" is a deep emtional dive into melancholic sounds, depicting the contrast between the intensity of its themes, some of which express feelings of self-doubt, apathy, loneliness, the lack of understanding and failure to communicate. The album, released on October 1st, comes with 9 tracks that complete the journey to "Sagitarius B2". The soundscape that Lefteris and Georgia create varies from mid-tempo dark synth wave to catchy synth pop, together formig a strong and solid introduction to the sonic world of Velvet Cave.

The time has now come for the duo to unveil this world to the audience, inviting everyone to experience the inner side of the ambence they create through their melodies and vocals. On the occasion of the official album presentation at Rover Bar, had this really interesting chat with Georgia and Lefteris, discussing about Velvet Cave, providng them the space to describe every turn of this journey with their own words, unpacking "Sagitarius B2" track by track.

ES: Hello Velvet Cave. Thank you for this interview. There is a new album released, your debut album, but, first, I would like to ask you about Velvet Cave. Would you like to introduce yourself and your project to our readers?

Velvet Cave: Hey Elektrospank, thank you for having us! We are an electronic duo from Thessaloniki, formed by two people who were deeply passionate about music and searching for a way to express themselves through it.

ES: "Sagitarius B2". A really interesting album title, but what is there, hidden, in "Sagitarius B2"? How did the "Sagittarius B2" concept shape the emotional soundscape and dark tone of the entire album?

Velvet Cave: Everything started with a poem titled “Sagittarius B2.” While we were working on the album, we realized that the tracks were quite different from one another, so we used this poem as a concept to bring cohesion to the whole thing. If you think about it, the sounds of space—as far as we know—are very similar to the atmosphere that synthesizers create. For us, and for so many others, an image cannot exist without a color, a texture, a sound, or a feeling. That’s what music provides. Behind Sagittarius B2 there is light and anticipation, movement and change, isolation within a dark, mysterious, and timeless space.

ES: Your sound origins are coming out from dark electro, synth-pop, and post-punk references. What drew you into these genres and how do you balance these, sometimes contrasting elements? Which are the main influences and where is your inspiration coming from?

Velvet Cave: Well, we’re both passionate about electronic music, just as we’re passionate about any form of art that has something meaningful to say. The genres you mentioned can make you think and reflect, but they can also make you dance and let go. We were drawn to this kind of art from a very young age, and we were completely fascinated by its diversity. Most of the time, we start a track by writing lyrics, so our inspiration comes from observing ourselves and the world around us.

ES: Having performed alongside major acts like She Past Away, how did sharing the stage with such established bands influence the writing and production for your debut album?

Velvet Cave: It didn’t influence the album much, because when we shared the stage with She Past Away, the writing and production were already almost complete. But the whole experience was an absolute pleasure for us! We were lucky enough to spend some time with them and receive some truly valuable advice!

ES: A live presentation of "Sagitarius B2" is coming up in Rover Bar, Thessaloniki, your city of origin. What kind of performance experience should the audience expect from this ritual at Rover Bar? Are there any future plans for further live dates and promotion?

Velvet Cave: Well, the audience should expect to experience our debut album “Sagittarius B2” in its full intensity and darkness. We always aim to have a great time on stage and truly enjoy the moment, and that’s exactly the energy we want to pass on to the audience. A live performance should carry this sense of coexistence and synchronicity — and that’s what we’re constantly striving for. This will be our final live show of the year, but we’re already planning more performances for next year, both in Greece and abroad, and maybe even some new music…

ES: Please guides us through the world of "Sagitarius B2" and tell us a few thing about the songs of Velvet Cave's debut album.

1. Sagittarius B2 I

The album opens with the first piece of the trilogy that unifies the record. Sagittarius B2 was originally the title of a poem Georgia wrote years ago, which we “broke” into three parts so they could mark the beginning, the middle, and the end of the album. The opening track introduces you, in a calm yet imposing way, into the melancholic and cosmic world of Sagittarius.

2. Apo Alli Troxia

This song is very special to us cause it actually set the tone and concept of the whole album. It’s about the deep sense of anticipation and yearning for someone (or something) to return. It describes the journey through longing, the chaos of waiting, and the rush of finally feeling everything coming together.

3. Ouroboros

Ouroboros is the first track we wrote and released as a band. It’s a dynamic track with a fast tempo and a dancy, energetic rhythm. The Ouroboros is often interpreted as a symbol for eternal cyclic renewal or a cycle of life, death and rebirth. We used its symbolism as a reference to express the transformation and rebirth someone experiences after a loss.

4. My Deepest Fear

My Deepest Fear is an electronic low-tempo song, with lyrics written some years earlier. It describes the feelings of insecurity, sadness, and isolation experienced by someone who faces loss and disappointment from the world around them.

5. Sagittarius B2 II

The second (and most rhythmic) part of the Sagittarius trilogy continues the narrative of the same poem (as the opening track), describing the inertia and inability in the connection and communication between two people. This track serves as the album’s interlude.

6. Fallen Idol

Fallen Idol is definitely the most “pop” track on the record. It’s a song that was also written years ago and was recently adapted so it could be included on the album. It refers to an obsessive, messed up relationship between an artist and a fanatic follower who doesn’t just admire him but lives for him, dreams of him, and becomes trapped in a toxic bond of dependence. These lyrics could be interpreted on so many levels, but let’s stay with the obvious one.

7. Echoes

Echoes is undoubtedly the most dancy and dynamic track on the album. It was the last song we wrote because we felt that it was needed to complete the record. It features dark sound textures, a fast arpeggiator, and a pervasive erotic undertone. This track embodies the musical direction we want to follow as Velvet Cave in the future.

8. Ophelia

Ophelia is the most “poetic” song on the album, wrapped within the structure of a typical darkwave track. The initial image that inspired the concept is that of a female figure lying in the water, in a forest, under the moonlight. The narrator does not know whether she is alive; still, he dreams of dancing with her. The track concludes with a translated recitation of "Ophelia" by Arthur Rimbaud. *We would also like to thank our friend Artemis Ilia Panagiotidou for gifting us her beautiful vocals on this track.

9. Sagittarius B2 III

The third and final part of the Sagittarius trilogy is also personally our favorite track from the album. We wanted the record to end in a way that feels calm yet simultaneously dark and dystopian. “And time flows by, awaiting the first pulses of destruction.

Velvet Cave were formed in Thessaloniki and have been active since 2023. Since then, they have performed live alongside world-renowned bands (e.g., She Past Away) as well as notable Greek bands (e.g., Valisia Odell, Electro Vampires, Remain in Light, The Love Underground). Their sound is defined by dark electro, synth pop and post-punk references, rooted in the electronic music of the 80s. Velvet Cave are comprised of Georgia Symeonidou (vocals, keys, theremin) and Lefteris Chatzisavvas (vocals, keys, theremin, guitar), and in October 2025 they independently released their debut album titled “Sagittarius B2.”
